The Southern Utah Art Guild is proud to present its “Capturing the Light” art show that will run from January 17 through March 5 in the Red Cliff Gallery.

The show features 143 works of art from 61 Southern Utah Artists. The show consists of contemporary art from all mediums including all forms of painting and mixed media, photography, pottery, sculpture and other.

The show is open from 10 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday.

The Red Cliff Gallery is located in the St. George City Commons Building, 220 N 200 E, in St. George.

The judges for the show were Glen Blakley and McGarren Flack:

Glen is an art professor and has taught at Dixie State University for 43 years. He has an MFA in Design and Ceramics from BYU. Glen’s accomplishments include that he was the first Director of the St. George (SG) Art Museum and for the SG Art Festival, a Member of the SG Arts Council, President of the SW Utah Arts Council, Board Member of Year of American Crafts in Utah, Board Member of the Utah Visual Arts Committee, Director at Large and Official Photographer for the National Council for Education in Ceramic Arts, Board Member of the National Writers Conference, Task Force Member of the SUWAC National Endowment Grant, Juror for the Junior SG Arts Festival, and Board Member for the SW Utah Film Commission. He is author of many national and international publications. He has won many art awards during his career with most recent award for the DSU Sears Art Gallery Service Award and the DSU Excellence in Teaching Award.

McGarren Flack was introduced to art at Utah Valley University and reached artistic maturity after painting for three years. He started painting in the fall of 2002 at Brigham Young University in the Illustration program. After graduating from BYU in 2005 Flack was accepted into the Masters of Fine Art program at the University of Utah and graduated April 2008. Currently, he is a full time painter and professor for Dixie State University. Flack's professional interest in art started when he saw the John Singer Sargent traveling art show in Washington D.C. He was captivated with the ability Sargent had in producing a scene that came alive and at the same time painted Brava brushstrokes. Flack's inspirations are mostly twentieth century artists like Ander Zorn, John Singer Sargent, JW Waterhouse, Carl Bloch, and P.S. Kroyer. You can view his art at: www.flackstudio.com
